Meanwhile, 19 per cent more individuals took out personal loans for home improvements over the 12-month period than in 2011.
The average sum borrowed for this purpose was £9,024, which was higher than the £8,792 recorded the previous year. All this money could certainly purchase plenty of kitchen gadgets, including items like the OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner.
Commenting on the findings, head of loans at Sainsbury’s Bank said: “Our research shows that, year-on-year, more people are looking to invest in their property and carry out home improvements. As well as the obvious improvements to standard of living, home improvements can add real value to a property. We’d encourage those planning work to shop around to ensure they see the best possible return on their investment.”
As long as people take care of the items they buy for their kitchens and elsewhere around their homes, they should last for a long time, helping to ensure they represent good value for money.
