Getting Work In Close Protection

Work In Close Protection

Close protection can be an exciting and rewarding career. There are many interesting opportunities for close protection officers both in the UK and around the world. In order to get work in close protection, there are a number of qualifications and licences that are required.

SIA Licence

In order to get work in close protection, candidates need an SIA licence. The licence will tell employees that the candidate has the necessary skills and training to work in close protection. In order to apply for an SIA licence, a level 3 close protection course must be completed. In some cases, people who have had previous military or police experience may be able to use the qualifications learned in those roles to apply for a close protection licence.

Close Protection Training

A close protection SIA training course consists of both theoretical and practical training. During the course, students will learn about the skills and techniques required to be a close protection operative, including surveillance, risk assessment and interpersonal skills. Students will also have the option to complete firearms or advanced driver training, or they could train to be maritime security operatives. They will also learn about getting a role in close protection once training and licencing is complete.

First Person on Scene

In order to apply for an SIA licence, candidates need to show that they have had the necessary first aid training. For this reason, the BTEC Level 2 First Person on Scene Intermediate (FPOSi) qualification is incorporated into a close protection training course. This will give students the medical skills required should they be the first person at the scene of an accident.
